Monsoons in Maryland, earthquakes in Holland, hurricanes in New York. What do we have that can begin to compare? A volcano! Technically the volcano is on the Chile side of the Andes range but the volcanic ash flew straight to Buenos Aires giving us striking yellow skies through June and July, respiratory problems for my husband, a huge mess in the airports and cars covered in volcanic ash. And these marvelous photos saved by my youngest who is fighting through studying the first courses for a degree in geology.

Wow. Strangely I was looking at pictures of volcanic landscapes and volcanoes earlier, and these are just stunning. (And rather frightening.)

Yes, it *is* frightening. The people in the area had a very tough time, especially because most of the ash fell on our side of the mountains at the beginning of the ski season on two of the largest ski resorts. That besides the loss of all the crops and huge problems to feed the cattle. The photos are stunning, though.

Que barbaridad... They are absolutely spectacular. I love them. But I think they were filed in the wrong place, I believe this must have been the sinking of Beleriand, actually.
